Cross Timbers Bison - Dusty & Marisa “Kathy”
Dusty & Marisa, decided to go off and do something different in 2018. Both working full time jobs at the time, saw an opportunity. With a past experience of working with bison at one time, Dusty was inspired by the history and significance of one of America's greatest iconic animals.
During his summer months between semesters at Oklahoma State, Dusty had worked with a small bison herd at a National Park in his hometown of Sulphur, OK. Admired by the sheer size, athleticism, and charisma of a living history, he was inspired to once raise an almost vanished icon.
Marisa and Dusty jumped into the journey of raising bison in May of 2018 with 1 yearling bull and 4 yearling heifers. They converted a once operating dairy farm that existed on Dusty’s parents property, into a startup bison operation. In May of 2019, with just one year of thrilling and some underestimated experiences under their belts, Dusty started a YouTube channel.
From there, Dusty took on the natural role of being a coach and teacher, displaying and educating what it was like to raise bison. In October of 2021, Dusty and Marisa were able to purchase their own property, “ the Ponderosa”. With a few more acres, Dusty and Marisa, “grew the herd!”.
In just over 5 years, they went from 5 bison to now over an operation of 60 animals.Today, they sell direct to customer cuts of meat. They also have an online store that consists of bison snack sticks, jerky, and merchandise. They plan to continue their focus on the quality of herd genetics and growing their ranching business.
